How can anyone predict future peace for any man? It depends on the meaning of peace, to borrow a phrase from a moral relativist.
Are we talking about peace in the Middle East? Are we talking about utopian peace? Or are we talking about heavenly peace?
Peace on earth, goodwill towards men in the hands of man is impossible. What too many humanists and pacifists do not understand is that as long as evil coexists with good, there will always be war. Evil is insatiable; the more it gets the more it wants.
There can never be peace in the Middle East as long as one side refuses to acknowledge the other side’s right to exist. As long as we have Muslim Madrasas teaching geography without Israel on the map, there can be no peace.
Ever since the fall of man in the Garden of Eden and his subsequent eviction from it a utopian existence on earth became impossible.
However, with the fall of man and the Adamic Covenant a wonderful promise was given to mankind:
-
“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.†(Genesis 3:15)
The Seed God spoke of to the Serpent is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace of whom the Prophet Isaiah spoke:
-
“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.†(Isaiah 9:6)
A man who knew much violence and was a warrior, King David wrote:
-
“Mark the blameless man, and observe the upright; for the future of that man is peace.†(Psalm 37:37)
David’s wise son Solomon explained the wisdom of living an upright life and the folly and future of the wicked:
-
“For the upright will dwell in the land, and the blameless will remain in it; but the wicked will be cut off from the earth, and the unfaithful will be uprooted from it.†(Proverbs 2:21-22)
The Bible has taken away any need for fortune tellers, soothsayers, or clairvoyants.
I do not need to lament the seeming victory of the wicked because I serve a Righteous Judge who will slay the wicked and my righteousness, which comes from Jesus, will be defended by the Advocate Christ:
-
“The LORD shall judge the peoples; judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to my integrity within me. Oh, let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, but establish the just; for the righteous God tests the hearts and minds. My defense is of God, Who saves the upright in heart.†(Psalm 7:8-10)
The Apostle Paul prayed this blessing upon the Christian church in Rome:
-
“Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.†(Romans 15:33)
The great Charles Haddon Spurgeon preaching on this passage said:
-
“He is the God of peace, for he justifies, and thereby implants peace in the soul, He accepted Christ, and, as the God of peace, He brought Him again from the dead; and He ordained peace, peace eternal with His children, through the blood of the everlasting covenant; He is the God of peace.â€
Has God implanted peace into your soul through the blood of Jesus Christ?
My future, not because of anything I have done, but all because of my Savior Jesus Christ, my future is one of eternal peace.
Do you know that peace?
Is that your future?
In Christ
