I love the pre-dawn hours. Sometimes the Lord awakens me early because He wants to spend time with me; to show me something wonderful in His Word.

Too often I ignore His gentle tug on my covers and pull them up closer to my ear; all to my detriment.

Such a loss to ignore the personal invitation of Jesus to spend time with Him in the precious hours before He has the sun rise.

My sister-in-law Barbara spends almost every morning with her Jesus watching Him raise the sun. I guess that is why she is closer to Him than almost anyone I know.

I can catalog countless times that I have spent amazingly invigorating pre-dawn hours with Jesus; I miss those…it as though I am being cheated. Kind of like this Adabella Radici quote I found:

“The time just before dawn contains the most energy of all hours of the day. This has helped me become an early riser and an early doer…. When I wake to see that it’s light out already, I feel like the world has started without me.”

Have you ever experienced Jesus awakening you early? No? Perhaps the tug on your covers you mistook for someone else. Did you go to bed weary from a decision you had to make or something unpleasant to do?

It is a special moment to be up early with Jesus reading His Word and finding a special holy nugget of truth just for you. The psalmist knew the value of early morning hours with the Lord:

“I rise before the dawning of the morning, and cry for help; I hope in Your word. My eyes are awake through the night watches, that I may meditate on Your word.” (Psalm 119:147-148)

What does God’s Word say about how I should start my morning? David vowed to the Lord:

“My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning I will direct it to You, and I will look up.” (Psalm 5:3)

We all appreciate a good morning greeting; I’m sure Jesus does too.

I wonder what American Christendom would be like if we started the morning praising Jesus?

“My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise. Awake, my glory! Awake, lute and harp! I will awaken the dawn. I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing to You among the nations. For Your mercy reaches unto the heavens, and Your truth unto the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let Your glory be above all the earth.” (Psalm 57:7-11)

I don’t have a lute or harp but I can certainly give praise and exalt the Lord Jesus Christ! Wanna join me?!

Oh to long for Jesus; to long for my Bible; to long for church; to long for worship with the same excitement I feel beginning a fun vacation.

Oh to believe that Jesus is more precious to me than life itself.

He will have to help me with that.

That is part of His grace.

I need that; really bad. I bet you do too.

It’s there, right there in your Bible. Go and get you some.

And while you’re at it; praise Him. Do it with His people. Do it in His house.

If you will; you will indeed have a blessed weekend. Be sure to do so in church on Sunday.

In Christ
