Yesterday I received the following response to my blog post “Come Now and Reason Together (Part 6)” from my most faithful blog commenter Carolyn down in Central Florida. She wrote:

You know what’s funny? I had one of those God things happen again, and it is right from what you were talking about this week! I was asking forgiveness for all my anger at politics and the people lately. I mean, I know some anger is OK, but not calling names and such as I have been doing- anyway, I was praying Friday about this and asking God to help me not to sin in my anger and to keep things in perspective. I know He is in complete control and all things are working together for His purpose, and things are only happening as He told us they would be. SO, last night I was reading Psalms (been reading 2 Peter too- old and new every day) and I happened to be at Psalm 37! The part that says:

“Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.” (Psalm 37:7)

Oh David I just got shivers from that- I know I’ve read it plenty of times, but it came in SO clear just then that it is what I HAVE to do!!! Then I read the rest and it really calmed me down! I have to keep this psalm in my heart during all these political times!!

Sorry- I just thought in light of what you have been talking about this week- this was right up our alley! Thank you David!

What is “right up our alley” is through God’s Word Carolyn found comfort and insight. And again as God would have it the verse I wanted to share with you today is from Psalm 119 and it speaks on comfort:

“This is my comfort in my affliction, for Your word has given me life.” (Psalm 119:50)

Found in God’s Word is God’s word, in other words, His promises (that’s a lot of “word”(s) for such a small sentence!). The NIV renders the second clause in Psalm 119:50 as:

    “Your promise preserves my life.”

I’m not sure how many of you have been reading the “Come Now and Reason Together” series I am writing from Brother Steve Deace’s radio show but it can be very depressing if the only information we have is what we see out in pundit land. Now Bro Steve is great at encouraging his listeners and that is because he is steeped in God’s Word and is very familiar with God’s words.

Do you feel as though the very life of you is being drained, as though dehydrating in the desert? Go to God’s Word and receive His word:

“My soul clings to the dust; revive me according to Your word.” (Psalm 119:25)

Are things looking desperate to you? When was the last time you were revived by God’s Word?

Do you have an overwhelming affliction, so much that you fear you won’t make it? When was the last time God’s Word gave you life?

Has it been forever or maybe never since you had “one of those God things happen again”? When was the last time you read the Psalms?

Beloved, great comfort and insight await you if you will just sit, be still, read your Bible and you too can get “shivers” from what you read.

If you need to be “really calmed down” then do as Carolyn did; go to His Word and receive His word.

In Christ
Dave
