Last night Karen and I had the privilege of spending election night with Dean and Jan Young and many of his loyal supporters. Dean came up short in his bid for Congress, but as he said, “The whole world took notice because we took on the GOP Establishment and scared them.†Many of his supporters were obviously disappointed and determined not to vote for Bradley Byrne because of the dishonorable campaign he ran.
What I was most proud of my friends Dean and Jan is there is no bitterness in their hearts, just a steeled resolve to honor the Lord Jesus Christ with their words and deeds. Dean told the press that he would not support Byrne because of the blatant and knowing lies he told about Dean. Byrne accused Dean of stealing money from Christians and putting it in his pocket. When Byrne was proved to be lying, he refused to retract his charges and apologize. Instead he dug in his heels. Dean told the press that Byrne would reap what he had sown.
Some will accuse Dean of sour grapes, but Dean knows his Bible and its principles for godly living (of which Byrne claims to do) and there is a lesson in all of this for us. We do not give up the fight for righteousness, but we do not seek revenge for the wrong done to us. King Solomon wrote to his son:
-
“These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren.†(Proverbs 6:17-19)
I have been praying for Bradley Byrne since I heard Dean speak to the press. Mr. Byrne is guilty of a lying tongue, a heart that devised a wicked plan, of being a false witness who speaks lies, and sowing discord among Christians. And should Mr. Byrne go on to be elected to Congress, the good people of South Alabama will be represented by a man facing God’s judgment:
-
“A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who speaks lies shall perish.†(Proverbs 19:9)
Now do I expect God to punish Mr. Byrne while he is in office? Only a fool would make that prediction, but I can safely say that a man who compromises his integrity will have no problem with betraying his constituents by voting for measures they oppose. That describes 90% of those in Congress today.
Additionally, those who voted for Mr. Byrne are responsible for their votes and although I don’t consider their vote a sin, they voted for an open sinner who refuses to repent of his evil ways, so the principle of reaping what you have sown will affect them:
-
“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.†(Galatians 6:7)
As Christian Americans, we cannot continue to sow the same evil seed and expect righteousness to abound in our land. If we continue to elect men such as Bradley Byrne, should we expect him to go to Washington DC and do anything different than what is already happening?
-
“They sow the wind, and reap the whirlwind. The stalk has no bud; it shall never produce meal. If it should produce, aliens would swallow it up.†(Hosea 8:7)
I will not even go into the gubernatorial results in Virginia, I’ll address that in my blog at thetruthwatch.org. However, as I left the party last night, I was not downbeat. In fact, I am newly energized. God has given me two initiatives; one that I’ve had for a couple of years now, and one recently revealed to me. The former is specifically for pastors; the latter for all righteous Christian voters. Those will be coming in the next few weeks. More importantly, I will turn to the Bible evermore for the wisdom it holds to seek the truth that is so desperately needed in our land.
As Christians, we must decide what we desire to sow in our culture. Do we desire worldly riches or heavenly righteousness?
-
“For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.†(Galatians 6:8)
I do not know how much more God needs to reveal to move the pulpits and pews across America to finally come together and fight the wickedness that is Washington DC. If all that has happened in the last five years is not enough, then God will reveal more. The reaping will become more grievous. I do not say that as some gloom and doom soothsayer; I say it expecting God’s will to be done. Our nation is not hopeless or beyond rescue. Very much the opposite.
The aletheia truth has been revealed to us in the Bible. Let us turn to it and to our Lord Jesus Christ to see the way in which we should go.
As long as the Lord tarries, allows me to awake in the morning, and gives me breath, I live to fight another day.
Will you join me?
In Christ
