One thing that amazes me as I look out over the political landscape in America is the level of deception among political, conservative, and Christian leaders. Now I do not know what is motivating this deception, nevertheless it is evil and it is out in the open for the entire world to see. We have a man in the White House of whom no one can tell us what hospital he was born in or who the attending physician was. Now this is simple information to find, however the source of that information is being kept secret at great cost to Mr. Obama. He has spent nearly one million dollars preventing the release of his long form birth certificate.

We have another man who is the master of deception, Mitt Romney. For some peculiar reason, one I think motivated by filthy lucre, too many conservative leaders, many of them representing Christians, have embraced this imposter all the while having received volumes of indicting information.

Some of you are probably thinking to yourselves I thought this was supposed to be a devotional…it is. Today’s title comes from Proverbs 24 and it addresses these “leaders” who refuse, for whatever reason, to address two of the most glaring examples of political deception. King Solomon taught:

“If you say, ‘Surely we did not know this,’ does not He who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?” (Proverbs 24:12)

The Hebrew word for “render” is sub (no relation to the English) and it means to “repay.” Solomon taught often about the motives of a man’s heart, regardless of how we see ourselves…God sees us for who we really are:

“All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the spirits.” (Proverbs 16:2)

“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the hearts.” (Proverbs 21:2)

God Almighty, our Creator, the One who fashioned the brains and hearts in our bodies, would it not make sense that He alone can perfectly know our thoughts and motives?

“He who planted the ear, shall He not hear? He who formed the eye, shall He not see? He who instructs the nations, shall He not correct, He who teaches man knowledge? The LORD knows the thoughts of man, that they are futile.” (Psalm 94:9-11)

Beloved, this devotional is not being written by a man who has completely embraced this truth by my actions, but I personally have experienced this truth many times in my life. It is a difficult thing to see yourself with the eyes of Jesus. When you realize that the King of the Universe is not being fooled by who you are, it brings great shame upon you.

However, if you will stop looking down at your shoes and look into the eyes of Christ you will not see condemnation, you will see forgiveness. How you say? It was His mission!

“And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, ‘Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?’ When Jesus heard that, He said to them, ‘Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. But go and learn what this means: “I desire mercy and not sacrifice.” For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.’” (Matthew 9:11-13)

No matter our offense, no matter how far we have run from God, Jesus is waiting for our contrition and confession of our sins, and capitulation to His lordship over our lives.

Although no person of sound mind approved of the killing of George Tiller, many Christians were glad that he would never kill another baby. However the Holy Spirit gave me a vision of Dr. Tiller standing before King Jesus the Righteous Judge having to explain his horrible deeds. What a frightful sight to know this man is forever condemned to hell not only because of his despicable deeds, but also and most importantly His rejection of Jesus Christ.

Anyone who takes delight in knowing that any man or woman is suffering in hell for eternity should let that be a warning of the condition of his or her heart. While it is true when we get to Heaven we will rejoice in the Lord’s perfect righteousness, we should never rejoice in the death of a lost sinner. How dare we take God’s mercy and grace on our lives for granted!

Our land will not see revival until it comes in each of our hearts and those lost in their sins see their need for Jesus. How will they ever know?

“For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved. How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?” (Romans 10:13-14)

That preacher is not the one you listen to every Sunday; it is you and me. We need to share the Truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

If we who call ourselves Christian only curse the darkness and never share the Light that is Jesus Christ…

…well, each of us will be judged according to his deeds.

Those who have ears let them hear…

In Christ
