How many of you know what the Hyde Amendment is? Oh, you’ve heard of it, but do you know what it is? It is named after the late Republican Congressman Henry Hyde of Illinois. In a nutshell, by manipulative law, it says not only can you kill your unborn baby if you were raped or conceived in incest, or a doctor certifies your life may be in danger, but also WE the People of the United States through our elected officials and tax dollars will pay for that abortion.

Let me ask you something since we’re on the subject of aletheia truth, and in the light of Scripture and the presence of the Holy Spirit, can you be pro-life if you support killing babies for any reason? Of course you cannot be pro-life. If we want to use the worn-out and commercialized WWJD method, do you think Jesus would support killing an unborn baby if it was conceived in rape or incest or a doctor said the mother’s life was in danger? Of course He wouldn’t.

What I believe He would say would resemble what Gregg Jackson wrote in his seminal work Conservative Comebacks to Liberal Lies:

Children shouldn’t be punished for the crimes their parents commit. We wouldn’t kill a four-year old if his father committed a murder, so why would we kill developing babies in the womb just because the biological fathers are guilty of rape or incest. Forced rape or incest is tragic, but in our society we don’t kill the children of criminals…Doctors say there is never a reason for an unborn child to be intentionally destroyed to save the life of the mother. Dr. C. Everett Koop, former U.S. Surgeon General, stated publicly that in his thirty-eight years as a pediatric surgeon, he was never aware of a single situation in which a pre-born child’s life had to be taken in order to save the life of the mother. He said the use of this argument to justify abortion, in general, was a “smoke screen.”

Beloved we have been duped and the faux conservative and Christian leaders have used moral relativism to confuse and fleece the flock. I want you to do two things and for full disclosure I want all of you to know (if you don’t already) that Gregg Jackson is a close friend of mine. But I want you to buy his book because it is an important tool in bringing political and moral clarity into the fog of political correctness. Did you know that moral relativism’s crowning achievement is political correctness? Satan could not be more proud. Why? Remember the Scripture verse I closed with yesterday?

“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20)

Now you might be saying to yourself, “Those dastardly secularists and moral relativists!” In the case of the Hyde Amendment, the ACLU and every pro-abortion group in America opposes the Hyde Amendment. No, it’s only “our side” who call it pro-life and are trying to make it permanent law.

The second thing I want you to do is to read my blog post from a year ago titled “That’s Not Pro-Life” and tell me if I have somehow missed something. If you think I’m off track please enlighten me.

Actually, there is one more thing I would like you to do. Ask your pastor if he knows what the Hyde Amendment is and if he says yes, ask him if he supports it. Share this devotional with him if he’s never heard of the amendment or supports it. Send this to all of your elected officials who call themselves pro-life and yet support the Hyde Amendment. If you haven’t caught on yet, I want this evil amendment banished forever! I never again want to see ONE SINGLE TAXPAYER PENNY pay for an abortion.

This is an abomination and a scourge on our government and our land!

Absolute truth—our Lord said we could know it and that it would set us free. King Jesus is teaching us the true meaning of liberty. It took a long time for me to understand that I had been duped on the issue of exceptions for abortion and the hardest lesson was that it was my fault. It was my fault because I followed man and not God. I listened to man’s reasoning instead of God’s Word, more exact, Jesus’ words. Read it again; His Word is so liberating!

“Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, ‘If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.’ They answered Him, ‘We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, “You will be made free”?’ Jesus answered them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. I know that you are Abraham’s descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you. I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father.’ They answered and said to Him, ‘Abraham is our father.’ Jesus said to them, ‘If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham. But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this. You do the deeds of your father.’ Then they said to Him, ‘We were not born of fornication; we have one Father—God.’ Jesus said to them, ‘If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.’” (John 8:31-47)

Can a professing Christian who supports the Hyde Amendment really be saved? I don’t know, but he or she is at least under the influence of Satan, Jesus has said as much here. Beloved when we compromise the Word of God for the sake of man and political expediency and/or pragmatism, we are on thin ice. Our old friend Matthew Henry writes:

Our Lord opposed the proud and vain confidence of these Jews, showing that their descent from Abraham could not profit those of a contrary spirit to him. Where the Word of God has no place, no good is to be expected; room is left there for all wickedness. A sick person who turns from his physician, and will take neither remedies nor food, is past the hope of recovery. The truth both heals and nourishes the hearts of those who receive it. The truth taught by philosophers has not this power and effect, but only the truth of God. Those who claim the privileges of Abraham, must do Abraham’s works; must be strangers and sojourners in this world; keep up the worship of God in their families, and always walk before God.

Beloved, is our nation past the hope of recovery? It is if we stay on the same path, and I’m not talking the Obama path, that’s just taking the interstate. I’m talking the winding and genteel country road of faux conservatism and Christianity. Either way our destination is sure.

More importantly, are you past the hope of recovery? Are you refusing the remedies and food of the Great Physician Jesus Christ? Have you been seeking healing and nourishment for you heart from truth taught by philosophers? Do you consider yourself a Christian, a child of Abraham, and yet refuse to do his works?

Jesus declared that if we will abide in His Holy Word then we are indeed His disciples. And in so doing we shall know the Truth and it will bring us the sweet liberty we so desire. Nothing else will heal and nourish this land.

If we refuse to do so no good is to be expected.

However, if we will then we shall see the power and effect of the truth of God.

More on that tomorrow.

In Christ
Dave
