Cause To Rejoice Or Mourn

Thursday, November 29th, 2012

So once again we are watching the circus live and in color on our television sets. The stage? Congress and the White House and the looming fiscal cliff. It is amazing to see after what was called the most important election of our lifetime that nothing has changed in Washington D.C. All the old leaders are the new leaders and you could not fill a bus up with those serving who are righteous in the sight of God. It reminds me of the old Rolling Stones song “We Won’t Get Fooled Again” where it ends with “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.”

I was asked by some, and accused by others, if I was looking for perfection in a candidate. My answer to both is I am looking for righteousness in our public servants. Those, whether or not they are Christians, who have a sense of responsibility to their electorate and more important to “the laws of nature and nature’s God.” As my buddy Steve Deace always says, “We want people of convictions, not positions.”

Let Us Answer Every Fear

Wednesday, November 7th, 2012

Glory to God, for He is on His throne! Jesus is King, Lord, and Savior to all who call to Him for salvation. America is today still the greatest nation in history and I praise God for being born an American. No matter the outcome of our elections throughout history, the peaceful transition of power is a God-breathed miracle captured by godly men who founded our nation. They were God-fearing men who recognized and relied upon the Providence of God.

Our nation is truly at a crossroads. The political outcome of yesterday’s election is a reflection…a symptom…of what ails our great country. Over half of our country clearly has an entitlement mentality where they believe by merely being Americans who may or may not have been dealt a bad hand that they are entitled to other people’s money. Beloved, that is a clear indication of a deeper issue that must be addressed.

Presuming Upon Tomorrow

Friday, July 27th, 2012

Should we prepare for the future? Absolutely! Should we try to predict the future? Only if you’re a fool. We can no more predict the future than we can determine our future. We can most certainly effect our future, but we are not in control of it. This may seem obvious to all of you, however if you read or listen to the news each day you would think some of these “experts” each had their own special crystal ball. Many would consider King Solomon the smartest man to ever live and he was wise enough to know we cannot know what the future holds:

“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.” (Proverbs 27:1)

Righteousness – It Strengthens A Nation

Thursday, July 5th, 2012

I do not think it a stretch to say our nation has become overall weaker than it once was. Whether it be economically, militarily, morally, or socially, the United States of America is not as strong as it used to be. How has this happen? Without a doubt the last three or so years under the Obama Administration has done much to weaken our nation. But that is the symptom, not the sickness. Electing and appointing unrighteous men and women to serve in the halls of government will always end up with a most destructive and despotic leader/ruler. But the issue is even deeper than that.

Our pulpits have been too silent for too long. Pulpits long ago stopped preaching against sin and a reliance of King Jesus and have preached a prosperity gospel that displays the Savior as some motivational coach to live your best life now. WE the People long ago, as a society, left the path of righteousness for a way of individualism, paved with self-esteem and lined with the poison of political correctness. King Solomon reminds us:

A Bad Conscience In The Presence Of Truth

Monday, June 11th, 2012

If you must take a stand for God, you must expect persecution to come. You cannot stand on the truth of God’s Word and all around you accept it peacefully, unless you are doing so in a “Christian ghetto” and even there pure aletheia truth is not always welcomed. And yet we do not have a choice of where we will stand for God; we can only choose to obey or disobey. David understood this calling very clearly.

“I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness in the great assembly; indeed, I do not restrain my lips, O Lord, You Yourself know. I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth from the great assembly.” (Psalm 40:9-10)

A Most Solemn Trust

Friday, January 20th, 2012

One year from today our nation will inaugurate either the 45th President of the United States or Barack Obama for a second term. As a nation we face the most important presidential election of my 55 years (when I vote) on earth. Some would say in history. I would say it is a close second to the election of 1860, because our nation’s survival hung in the balance then.

So what should we look for in our next president? Too many of us, me included for the longest time, looked for perfection whether we want to admit it or not. The truth of the matter is we all have fatal flaws and none of us are truly fit for office, for too many reasons to list right now. I know it gets very confusing in this time of year, and that is one of the reasons we began Aletheia Group L.L.C.; to help discover the truth no matter where it leads.

First, I always like to define a word I use that can be construed as offensive.

According To Their Real Character

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

Why is our nation in the state it is? Many blame this political party while that party blames the other party. The church blames the atheists and the atheists blame the church. Seems like there’s a lot of finger-pointing going on these days. The concept of personal responsibility long ago left American society with Dr. Spock’s admonition to not spank children, the government enabling bad personal behavior, and the mainstreaming of immorality, just to name a few.

Is It Easier To Doubt Or Harder To Believe?

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

Driving into work yesterday, I was listening to my iPod and a song by Sanctus Real came on titled “These Things Take Time” and the second stanza goes like this:

A Divine Covenant – Part Two

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

Aren’t you glad that God does not forget His covenants, even though we who claim to be His disciples do? America not only has forgotten her covenant with God, but our leaders have forgotten His with Israel. Part of the problem is that we have a serious leadership vacuum here in America. I commented on leadership at my latest video blog:

Sold To The Nation

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

The next big fight in Congress is whether or not to raise the current debt ceiling. Supposedly, Capitol Hill and 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue—purportedly filled with self-avowed Christians—understand that this spending and debt accumulation cannot go on forever. Alas, right understanding does not always turn into right action, particularly not inside the Beltway.

A Slack Hand Becomes Poor

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

With the economy and various states working to get their budgets back on track, there is a long overdue look being given to the many entitlement programs at both the federal and state levels. We’ve just learned this week that 1 out of 3 Americans receive some type of federal payout through wages and salaries, Social Security, Medicare, and unemployment insurance. Over the coming months I will be launching a new entity that will address political and cultural issues through a Biblical lens because they are much too involved to cover in a few devotionals much less one.

Understanding Underdogma

Saturday, January 29th, 2011

Over the past 3½ years since losing Eddie, one of the blessings of my life is the friends I have made. In God’s Providence and through Eddie’s article, I was able to meet and become close friends with Mark Levin. And through Mark’s radio show and my occasional appearances there, many of his listeners have befriended me. One of those friends is Michael Prell.

For All The Wrong Reasons

Monday, January 24th, 2011

We’re going to take a detour this morning from the Sermon on the Mount; a much needed detour. It’s actually more of a returning to the main road than taking a detour.

Looking Towards Heaven in 2011 – It Is Set Before Us

Friday, December 31st, 2010

Many people are looking at the date December 21, 2012 for a time where great change will come. This is based of the ancient Mayan calendar ending on that date. There is actually a website titled “Survive 2012”.

Absolute Truth – The Truth Both Heals and Nourishes

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

How many of you know what the Hyde Amendment is? Oh, you’ve heard of it, but do you know what it is? It is named after the late Republican Congressman Henry Hyde of Illinois. In a nutshell, by manipulative law, it says not only can you kill your unborn baby if you were raped or conceived in incest, or a doctor certifies your life may be in danger, but also WE the People of the United States through our elected officials and tax dollars will pay for that abortion.

The Sin of Entitlement

This morning in my Bible reading I came across an old familiar passage that is fresh and new.

The God Of My Strength

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Special Note: It is hard to believe but I have double-checked; this is the 500th devotional I’ve written. My gratitude to the Lord Jesus for His grace and my appreciation for all of you overflows my heart this morning. A heartfelt thank you!
