And The Week Is Only Half Over!

Wow! Where to begin? First, praise God for the Supreme Court upholding the ban on partial birth abortion signed by President Bush. While I understand why some evangelicals stayed away from the polls in 2006, the presidential nomination is huge. As Rod Martin wrote on his blog today:

“For those who’ve decided the Presidency doesn’t matter, or that a Republican Congress (which we no longer have) can better restrain spending with a Democrat President, the message is perfectly clear: a Hillary or an Obama would have appointed another Ruth Bader Ginsburg to the Court, turning this 5-4 victory for life into a 6-3 defeat. Right now, Roe v. Wade itself is on the ropes. One more Republican Presidency could finish it; one more Democrat could keep it on the books for a generation.”

Global Warming Gag

One can only imagine how hot it would be this month of April if it were not for global warming. I mean instead of it being the coldest April in 113 years, it would be the coldest April ever!

I know, you’re thinking, how I can I deny global warming when there is such a consensus about it? Because science is not a consensus. Please see what the brilliant Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma has to say about the media coverage of global warming.

Goodbye Giuliani

Well if anyone still doubts Rudy Giuliani’s inability to win the GOP nomination, then take a gander at this: Giuliani stands by support of publicly-funded abortions.

If any self-respecting Republican, you RINOs included, think that Rudy Giuliani is going to win the GOP nomination believing that abortion is a constitutional right, then you need to have a closer look at that bump on your head.

Toodleloo Tax Cuts

Thanks to Carol Loewen for sending me an article written by House Minority Leader John Boehner titled “Back to the Future.” It seems that our old Democrat friends are back at their old games (in the immortal words of Gomer Pyle, “surprise, surprise!”)

In a not least bit surprising move, the Democrats loaded the emergency funding bill for our troops (one being my son) in harm’s way with some unbelievable pork! And please do not be fooled by the RINOs voting against the bill. Senator Norm Coleman (R-Minn) defended the 100 million dollars for national convention security as necessary! HEY SENATOR COLEMAN, HOW ABOUT PUTTING THAT IN ANOTHER BILL, SAY LIKE FY 2008! (Sorry for yelling, but my son and the troops really need funds now)

RINO Hunting

I’m trying to decide what should be the acceptable grade to be considered a conservative. Seventy-five percent seems a little low because that is a mid-level “C” grade which is just average, but can’t we do better? Having said that and using 75% as a measuring rod, here are the “RINOs” up for reelection in 2008 with their 2006 ratings and lifetime ratings in parenthesis from the American Conservative Union (http://www.acuratings.org/2006all.htm#MN)

No More Cut and Run!

“If we desire to avoid insult, we must be able to repel it; if we desire to secure peace, one of the most powerful instruments of our rising prosperity, it must be known, that we are at all times ready for War.”

The above quote is from our first president, George Washington. If the “Father of Our Country” were alive today and in command of our forces in Iraq, I wonder what he would say about the Murtha inspired, Pelosi driven cut and run bill passed by the House of Representatives Friday.

Pastor’s Perspective

Hey Everyone!

Welcome to the new feature for “Salt and Light.”  I have asked my pastor, Dr. Dennis Brunet to help shed some light on very contemporary and somewhat controversial issues.  We will be exploring why evangelicals take the stands they do.  Stay tuned!

Also, if you haven’t got yours yet, you’re going to want to get a copy of my book, “Understanding Evangelicals: A Guide to Jesusland.”  Just hit the link on the lower righthand column and it will take you to Amazon.

Freedom Feels Good

Thanks again to Frank Salvato of The New Media Journal!  He has published Eddie’s latest article, Freedom Feels Good, an article that actually began as a reply to one of the responses he received for his first article, Hope Rides Alone.  Check it out; it is as powerful as the first.  Thanks again to Frank and to Greg Allen of The Right Balance for doing all they can to get Eddie’s writings out into the public domain.

As for Part 5 of “Reviving the Republicans” (no I didn’t forget), I was actually waiting on Congress to act on this anti-escalation/surge resolution so I could include that in part of the antidote to RINOs which is Part 5.  That’s like waiting on my grass to grow in the winter.

You’ve Got To Read This!

My son Eddie is serving his second combat tour in Iraq and he recently sent me an article after seeing all the bad press about the Iraq War.  My heartfelt thanks to Greg Allen of The Right Balance for introducing me to Frank Salvato of the New Media Journal, an online magazine with excellent and hard-hitting articles.  Frank was gracious enough to publish Eddie’s article, “Hope Rides Alone.”  Frank and I will be on Greg’s radio show tomorrow morning talking about Eddie’s article.  Please tune in at 10:15 central time.  (Just hit the link for the Right Balance)

Christian In Name Only (CINO)

Note: Below is a response I wrote in an email to my good friend Dino Minutillo inquiring about the new “Christian movement” within the Democratic Party…

There is a very easy way to weed all these CINOs out (I like that Dino!). The Bible says: “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.” (1 John 4:1-3)

Reviving the Republicans (Part 4)

“It’s one thing to have a sizable minority like the Democrats stand in your way, but it is just unacceptable when a tiny, tiny, tiny fraction of Republicans in Congress also rear up in opposition and join the liberal Democrats to derail an agenda. At some point that has to be faced. It has to be faced because these RINOs, these moderates, are undermining our agenda on taxes; they are undermining our agenda on spending; they are undermining our agenda on oil drilling, and they are undermining the war on terror…”

Check This Out!

Hey Everyone!

You may be thinking that I’ve given up on my 5-part series, “Reviving the Republicans,” but I’ve been sitting back to see what House Democrats would do in their “first 100 hours” and how the Senate responds. I’ve also made some observations about the “Mini-Me RINOs” that the Dems have on a leash with a big lollipop in their (RINOs) hands. You getting my drift?

The main reason for this post is that there is an outstanding article on Human Events Online written by Stephanie Dube titled, “The Next MoveOn.org?” It is about my dear friend and founder of TheVanguard.org, Rod Martin. Please take a moment to read it and get to know Rod better; I learned some things about him I did not know. The heartbeat of TheVanguard.org is to be the antidote to MoveOn.org and we at TheVanguard.org are working hard to mobilize an army of conservatives to stand in the gap.

Reviving the Republicans (Part 3)

“This is the issue of this election: Whether we believe in our capacity for self-government or whether we abandon the American Revolution and confess that a little intellectual elite in a far-distant capitol can plan our lives for us better than we can plan them ourselves.”

—Ronald Reagan, from a speech delivered 27 October 1964, Los Angeles, CA
