I receive around 100 emails a day from across the country and the majority of them have to do with the state of our nation. Most are decrying the lack of morals, despising our politicians, and declaring the need to do something. There is a real move across the fruited plain, from sea to shining sea for a restoration of America’s traditions. I could not agree more.

For those of you who have been receiving this devotional since the election, you have watched me metamorphose in my thinking from political pragmatism to personal piety. This on-going change is a long and winding road with much of the turns coming as I battle my emotions. My family and I have given much in the defense of liberty and too often I think with my heart instead of my head at the leading of the Holy Spirit. When I find myself like this I always know where to turn. I turn to God’s Word.

If we want to see America, one nation under God, a land founded on biblical principles, then we must go back to His Word. We must reeducate America, not only on God’s Word but also on our Charters of Freedom to understand how and why the United States was formed. Then and only then will America experience the revival we so desperately need to bring about a New American Revolution.

Once Nehemiah had obeyed God and completed the census as the Lord had instructed, Nehemiah called for God’s Word to be read:

“Now all the people gathered together as one man in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate; and they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded Israel. So Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly of men and women and all who could hear with understanding on the first day of the seventh month. Then he read from it in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate from morning until midday, before the men and women and those who could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the Book of the Law. So Ezra the scribe stood on a platform of wood which they had made for the purpose; and beside him, at his right hand, stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Urijah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah; and at his left hand Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam. And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was standing above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up. And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. Then all the people answered, ‘Amen, Amen!’ while lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground.” (Nehemiah 8:1-6)

What would happen in America if its people who could understand would read the Bible for a half a day? I’m not asking for a week of fasting and prayer; if all who could understand, believers and unbelievers, would dedicate just four hours of one day to read the Bible, what could God do with that? I believe a massive majority of the readers would bow their head and worship the LORD with their faces to the ground. I believe it would bring revival.

Bro Dave, you cannot honestly believe that a four-hour read-a-thon of the Bible could bring a revival to America? Yes I do because I got saved reading the Bible. Every presupposition I had about salvation, my list I call it, was erased by God’s Word. I believe that if we would read particular passages from the Bible in a structured manner for one morning that revival would surely break out. Why? Because we as a nation would be reeducated from the pollution of universal salvation and equality of religions that the scales on people’s eyes would literally fall off. Call me crazy but I believe Jesus could do it. He did it to Saul; he did it to me.

And then imagine the pastors across America teaching God’s Truth and helping the people understand specific passages and what it means to Americans individually and corporately.

“Also Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, helped the people to understand the Law; and the people stood in their place. So they read distinctly from the book, in the Law of God; and they gave the sense, and helped them to understand the reading. And Nehemiah, who was the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, ‘This day is holy to the LORD your God; do not mourn nor weep.’ For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the Law. Then he said to them, ‘Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.’ So the Levites quieted all the people, saying, ‘Be still, for the day is holy; do not be grieved.’ And all the people went their way to eat and drink, to send portions and rejoice greatly, because they understood the words that were declared to them.” (Nehemiah 8:7-12)

I believe Americans would weep when they read the God’s Word; I believe the people would be grieved. Many do and many do not come to Christ because they believe their sins too horrible to be forgiven. Some will say they need to get their life straight before they give their life to Christ. When I hear this I tell them I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that will never happen. The good news is you do not have to wait.

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

Did you see that?!! You do not have to wait to overcome your sin before you accept Christ because Jesus died WHILE WE WERE STILL SINNERS!!! Is there one hallelujah?

Beloved revival came to Israel because godly men such as Nehemiah, Ezra, and the rest listed above purposed in their hearts to preach and teach the Word of God. And the people gave of themselves and listened and they understood.

Is this the cry of your heart? Do you want to see a New American Revolution, not one of a theocracy, but of a return to the principles of liberty for which our Founding Fathers lived, fought, and died? Men of whom the majority were evangelicals, who knew God’s Word, knew that sinful man could not be trusted and through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and the study of great minds developed our republican form of government with a system of checks and balances. A form of government that had three branches of government designed after the ultimate Governor:

“For the LORD is our Judge, the LORD is our Lawgiver, the LORD is our King; He will save us.” (Isaiah 33:22)

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.” (Isaiah 9:6-7)

Many revisionist historians, some conservative, try to deny the role Christianity played in the founding of first the thirteen colonies and then the United States, but the facts tell us otherwise.

If we would have some Nehemiahs step forward and call for America to seek the Truth found in the Holy Scriptures I know that America would be changed.

That means I…you…need to read our Bibles.

And we need to go to church on Sunday.

Hope to see you there…

In Christ
Dave
