If The Foundations Are Destroyed

(I felt compelled by the Holy Spirit to post my devotional here this morning)

Here is a question pollsters like to ask: “Is America on the right track?” If I was asked this question I would ask the pollster what he or she meant by the right track? Can Americans who are polled qualify and quantify what they mean by the right track? My suspicions tell me no. Most Americans do not know what they believe much less be able to articulate what their core values are. Why is that?

It is because we live in a world where having any type of moral ruler, something with which to measure our morality, automatically labels you with being intolerant, arrogant, and judgmental. Now there are many so-called moralists running around America who are those things, however those whose foundations are built on biblical truth might be intolerant of sin, come off as arrogant because we can be that way sometimes, and be judgmental if I am comparing myself with you. Nevertheless if I stand on the Word of God I am not being judgmental because it is God who has judged not me.

The only people who will tell you our nation was not founded on biblical principles are revisionist historians, the intellectually dishonest, or the historically ignorant. And before anyone goes the Charters of Freedom trying to prove the word “God” isn’t in there (which it is not) one need to do only a little research to understand that the terms “Creator”, “Providence”, and “Supreme Being” all referred to the Almighty God of the Bible.

Furthermore, if one was to look at the original covenants made by the colonies and later the state constitutions, it is without doubt that this nation was built for the desire to have liberty to exercise free market principles and to freely worship or not worship who they saw fit. The foundations of our nation are grounded in biblical principles. The Mayflower Compact, the first known covenant, proclaims one of the purposes of the mission of the Pilgrims was for “advancement of the Christian Faith.”

And what happens to a nation whose foundations are destroyed? King David watched the nation of Israel begin to unravel before his eyes and after the death of his son Solomon it did indeed split into two kingdoms. David described who suffers when a nation foregoes its foundational truths:

“If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:3)

What can the righteous do? Many American Christians believe America is lost without revival, me among them. Does that mean we do not fight for our country; do we pick up roots and move somewhere else? If yes, to where? Is there a nation, even with the evil running rampant in our country; is there a nation in better shape than the United States of America? I know of not one. And read what the NIV Study Bible says the condition is of those who would flee:

“To those who counsel flight, the powerful upsurge of evil appears to indicate that the righteous can no longer count on a world order in which good triumphs over evil.”

While I know I cannot count on a world order for good to triumph over evil, my King Jesus has already defeated evil! The foundations of this world order were not set by men but by God Almighty!

“Then the channels of the sea were seen, the foundations of the world were uncovered at Your rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of Your nostrils.” (Psalm 18:15)

Man cannot undo what he has not wrought! Evil’s darkness hates you Light! Satan’s stench despises you Salt! Where are you mighty Christian warrior? Why are you not at the Lord’s ramparts believer? Have you no courage? Do you not care what happens to this blessed nation, a country that is “One nation under God”? Or are you satisfied with a seat at the king’s table, even if it is Nebuchadnezzar’s?

Are you the faithless one who no longer realizes that he or she is under the blood of Christ?

“They do not know, nor do they understand; they walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are unstable.” (Psalm 82:5)

Beloved believer if you are confused by the issues of today might it be that you are relying on the wisdom of man and not the Wisdom of God? Is your spiritual being so thirsty that you cannot identify the moral issues that come from God’s order, that which sustains this world? Can you not see that our society is crumbling because the men and women who are to be the keepers of justice are themselves immoral?

I am sharing with you how the Lord has quickened my heart. I will no longer allow fear to paralyze my lips. I will not allow pragmatism to chart my course. I cannot be satisfied with my material possessions and call myself blessed. God’s Word is showing Himself to me and having seen the Holy Lord of the Bible I can only cry out:

“Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.” (Isaiah 6:5)

And while unlike Isaiah my lips have not been cleaned by the live coal carried by seraphim, I have been washed in the blood of Jesus Christ!

“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” (Ephesians 1:7)

I have been called by the Lord Jesus to stand in the gap for Him and through the emboldening of the Holy Spirit I will be obedient to that call. That is why I have written a New Declaration of Independence. I will no longer stand by and watch this nation rot before my very eyes because its very foundations are being destroyed.

I owe that to my family. I owe that to my dead son. I owe that to King Jesus.

    Despite selfish wars, often false theology, and an often corrupt church hierarchy, I am proud of what God has given to the West throughout history because of Christianity. Yet Satan always has new means for attacking people whom God has blessed. The Jesuit Order was created to undermine the faith-based Reformation, claiming that meditative exercises would bring us salvation with God. Then Giovanni Pico della Mirandola and Spinoza put paganism (Kabbalah and pantheism) into their philosophies, demoting the Bible to a mere “book of wisdom” or “mythological text”. And it went from there. But the more I’ve learned about the history of Christianity in the West, the more I appreciate its creative output in music, science, art, poetry, and political science. It is no wonder Satan seeks to destroy our Christian heritage, from such an irrational hatred of good things.

    The biggest clarion call to me is what happened to Russia. Socialists, frequently occultists, tried to stir up overthrow of the government all throughout the 1800s, especially after Alexander I initiated the Holy Alliance, a pact signed by other European countries that promised to govern by the Bible. The later Alexander II, the tsar who was most eager to reform Russia into a republic, like Chiang Kai-shek wanted to do, was assassinated the day he was going to set up a representative legislature. As a result, the progress Alexander II had already made caused chaos, since the people could not get their voices heard, and future tsars were hesitant to go against tradition, figuring it would get them assassinated. Eventually the overthrow of the Christian government followed, the very thing Alexander II’s assassination was intended to impel. I have a hunch that Lincoln, too, would have rebuilt the South and healed racial tensions had he not been assassinated. People desperately need to be reeducated about Abe Lincoln, for people variously say he was a pragmatist or that he was a dictator, or that he saw the light in Marxism. I believe his legacy needs to be reunderstood in order for Americans to realize that our country is worth fighting for–its unity, its Christianity, its principles.
