Last night during our men’s dinner at church we ended with a time of prayer for one another around our individual tables. One of the brothers asked for prayer in trusting God to handle what is going on in our country. I completely understand his struggle and that was reinforced when I opened another email from another supposed pro-life group (this time it was the Massachusetts Citizens for Life – MCFL) urging its readers to call their congressman to oppose the healthcare bill if it did not have the Stupak Amendment in the bill.
I have written about the faux pro-life movement and the more of these emails I receive the more my frustration grows and I have the same sickening feeling in my stomach that my brother in Christ described last night. As a side-note, even if ALL government abortions were not allowed in this health care bill I would still oppose the bill because it is clearly socialist in nature and execution.
All that being said the real problem in American Christendom is the level of dishonesty and incompetency within the Church proper and parachurch type organizations such as MCFL, FRC, ACLJ, FOTF, and most others. The truth has long left too many pulpits and just about every one of these “pro-life/family†organizations.
Did you know that these organizations support the Hyde/Stupak/Ben Nelson Amendment and under the Hyde Amendment your taxpayer dollars paid for 191 abortions in 2006? Are you okay with that?
Wait, wait Bro Dave, are we not having a devotional this morning?
Yes, the title is “Lying Lips†and the Bible says:
-
“Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, but those who deal truthfully are His delight.†(Proverbs 12:22)
These organizations do not deal truthfully and are by no means a delight to the LORD and they are an abomination to Him because they have lying lips.
In all the emails you have received from these organizations, where they always ask for your money, have you ever, EVER seen them say, please help us in ensuring the Stupak Amendment passes, which allows for killing babies conceived in rape or incest or if a doctor says a mother’s life is in danger?
Have you ever received an email such as that?!
Have you ever received an email from these liars telling you that incrementalism versus trusting God is the prudent and pragmatic way to save babies in America?
Have they ever said we would rather save 99 out of 100 babies versus losing all 100?
Have you ever heard them say we want to save all 100 and we are trusting God to move in the minds and hearts of pagan leaders as He did so many times in the Old Testament?!
Do you believe that if any one of these leaders were standing before the Bema Seat (I’m assuming they are all saved) that they would use their worldly, humanistic reasoning to explain their positions before King Jesus? Would you?
Part of being honest is being forthright with the truth and forthrightness is defined as “going straight to the point; frank; direct; outspoken.†When was the last time you received an email or letter from one of these organizations that were forthright with the truth? They cannot make the same claim that the Apostle Paul made with the Corinthian church:
-
“Open your hearts to us. We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have cheated no one.†(2 Corinthians 7:2)
If you are not dealt with in a forthright and truthful manner, do you feel wronged? If someone is deceiving a supporter into believing they are doing one thing while doing another, is that supporter being corrupted? If people take money from you, with you fully expecting them to work hard to stop abortion, without exceptions, and yet do not do so, do you feel cheated?
These people also cannot make the claim of the writer of Hebrews:
-
“Pray for us; for we are confident that we have a good conscience, in all things desiring to live honorably.†(Hebrews 13:18)
It all comes down to this; can I trust God? Am I convinced that He is able to cause a holy move across this nation in one fell swoop, bring revival to the church, make pagan leaders do His will, and restore our nation to its greatness? Is our God big enough to do that? The Old Testament is filled with such examples.
That is why I am going to begin writing on some of those.
I will be out of pocket all next week (I’m fine) so there will be no devotionals, but I want all of you to read the Book of Esther next week. God has put a burden on my heart to do a study of this unique book. Its uniqueness is that never once is God mentioned by name and yet it made it into the Holy Scriptures.
Why was that? What is God trying to tell us?
I’ll give you a couple of clues to open your eyes for as you read next week: a pagan ruler and a Benjamite.
So please remember to read the Book of Esther next week and please remember to go to church on Sunday.
In Christ
Dave
