I wrote in my book a chapter on education and I outline how the National Education Association, the state chapters, and teacher associations are determined to outlaw homeschooling in America.
Having grown up in California few things surprise me about the Golden State and a recent state court of appeals ruling is no different. As a parent, you do not have a right to homeschool your child if you do not have teaching credentials in California. The old saying is “as California goes, so goes the country.”
So all you evangelicals and conservatives who are planning on staying home in November to teach the Republican Party a lesson, if you hand all three branches of government to the Democrats then prepare yourself for the homeschooling attack to spread.
This is one of the areas I will be addressing what is at stake in this year’s election.
Brother Dave
We home school our 9-year old daughter here in the LA area. As you said, nothing about California surprises me but many things trouble me. This is one of the most troubling things we’ve encountered out here. If we could be sure that our children would receive a moral and grounded education we wouldn’t need to educate them ourselves. We will not turn over their future to the State of California.
Thanks for all you do my friend!

Hi Dave- you know, it amamzes me that women have the right to kill thier children, but they don’t have the right to educate them. I think these “judges” need to read up on the test scores of homeschoolers compared to those of government schools. Oh well- I look to the day that they try this in every state. Like the gay marriage movement- all it takes is one state to conquer- then they all may crumble. On the brighter side- you and Buzz ought to check this one out http://www.christianworldviewnetwork.com/article.php/3207/
God Bless you Dave- and hang in there California!! Carolyn
I wrote a post on this and linked to some other new articles and to Focus on the Family’s article on this. There is a petition to sign.

Dave,
It has been a long time, life has a way of keeping us slammed, but I thought I had a few minutes, checked your blog and want to weigh in on this. I have done some research on this and the requirement to be a credentialed teacher to homeschool is not yet enforced as a result of the appelate courts decision, but it may be if it goes to the California Supreme Court.
As I am sure you know by now, James Dobson is outraged and taking action, and I just saw that our Govenor is now against it and calling for action as well. I don’t think that this ruling has a snowball’s chance in Hell of actually standing when it reaches the Cal. Supreme Court. We have a reputation of having wacky appelate courts, who are often overturned. Consequentally, I would not dispair, but I think every freedom loving citizen should make their voice, email, fax, phone call and letter heard by as many legislators and Supreme Court Justices as possible, or we will be in a world of hurt.
Gob Bless those who take action,
Cliff
Dave, I have always been amazed at any parent who could teach their children day in and day out. The strength and will power it takes to do this is incredible. BUT this year I assisted coaching varsity basketball at our local Christain school here in California. 7 of the eleven kids who were on the team were homeschooled. I saw virtually no motivation from these kids. We could not get them fired up at all. Our head coach and I talked about this all year and we “believe” that because they get raised without ever struggling to get things done because”mommy” is standing over their shoulder they can finsih when they get ready. If they get done early they can go outside, shoot baskets by themselves or play video games or whatever they do by themselves. They do not learn how to deal with things of this world and then they are thrust into the world. Please do not misunderstand me I believe we must protect our children from the “things of this world” but they must still be “in this world” If we do not teach our children how to do that early in life and not shelter them so much that they cannot become a light unto the world, as God has instructed us.
Our children have grown up and were able to send our youngest son to Christian school his junior and senior years. We have pledged to do all we can to assist in sending our grandchildren to Chritsian schools so they can learn to be social with other Christian families and to here scriptures and interpretations of scripture from many Christian people.
I certainly do NOT agree with the concept of having to have a credential to teach our own children. We do not need more government interference in our daily lives. I just took the opportunity to give my simple thoughts on homeschooling
