Let’s go back to our foundational verse and this is the foundational verse of our new venture starting in three weeks.
-
“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.†(John 8:32)
That is a precious promise from the Lord Jesus Christ and like most things, the Pharisees totally missed it.
I awoke this morning to a MercyMe song running through my head, actually it’s the chorus from the song “Freeâ€:
-
No matter what they do
My heart belongs to you
I’m free
Oh the hands that hold the world have set me free
He has broken every chain
So I lift my hands up to the One who saves
There is a great fear for America and looking with temporal eyes there is great reason for concern. As a Christian, is it okay to fear for America? I some days go back and forth on this, but in the light of Scripture I do not need to fear. Remember this promise from Jesus?
-
“Indeed the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.†(John 16:32-33)
What would the American Church look like today if we lived the truth, the aletheia truth, that Jesus has overcome the world? Would we begin trusting Christ instead of Congress to fix our problems? Would we believe in the deliverance of our nation by the Prince of Peace instead of politicians? One can only wonder. MercyMe gets it in their song “Freeâ€:
-
Take me captive, you can lock me away
But my debt is already paid
Take me prisoner, but I will not fear
‘Cause my deliverer is already here
Would to God that we would not fear anything man could possibly do if we would stand on the aletheia truth. Is it not possible that if we did this, the American Church that is, that God would respond and bring the revival and restoration our land so desperately needs? Would not God move?
Which type of liberty is most important to you? If you had a choice and could get only one of them, would you choose financial, physical, or spiritual liberty? You only have one choice so choose wisely. And I don’t choose the expected answer; search your soul…allow the Holy Spirit to penetrate the depths of your heart and root out the hidden answer.
The biggest obstacle for a Christian to overcome is his or her rights. The Apostle Paul teaches about spiritual liberty:
-
“And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.†(Romans 6:18-23)
Knowing the aletheia truth means not focusing on the cares of this world. It means I am totally sold out to Jesus Christ, focused on my Father’s will for my life…a will I discover through His Word.
I am not saying we give up on our country; quite the contrary I am sharing with you the only way we can save our nation. Three weeks from today we will celebrate our nation’s 235th birthday and that is why I will be launching the Aletheia Group on July 5th; to help rescue the Church first and then our country.
Beloved, it will not matter how many people we try to mobilize if our purpose for organizing is not centered on Christ. The Tea Party is a wonderful movement but I can promise you their sole purpose is not to return to our moral foundations. If we do not make that our first priority then all other efforts will fail. They always have and they always will.
That may sound defeatist but I believe it to be realist. Do you want true liberty? Do you want to be an overcomer no matter what comes your way? Then live your life the way the lyricist from our song writes:
This world can have its way
Nothing can stop Your glory
What may become of me
I’ll overcome
That my dear friends is true liberty…what may become of me I’ll overcome. Why? Because Jesus promised that we could know the truth, aletheia truth, and the truth would set us free.
Are you free?
In Christ
Dave
